“we do it because it’s fun, it’s fun because we get to do it”

about Hannah

Originally from landlocked Kentucky, Hannah has always craved adventure, preferring to feel small in the big wide world rather than stay comfortable in one place. She turns setbacks into fuel to tackle bigger challenges and reach new heights, whether that’s out scaling cliffs or chasing waves.

She has always craved the sea, Hannah’s happy place; a space that teaches patience, humility, the importance of listening and living in the moment. Her love for sailing kicked off during a summer in Oahu, where she spent her days capsizing sailing dinghies and exploring with friends on Hobie cats. The iconic image that stuck with her as inspiration? A friend’s first-hand photo of their boat gliding under the Golden Gate Bridge after crossing the Pacific. That was the spark that lit her sailing dreams.

Now, Hannah’s gearing up for her biggest adventure yet: the 2025-6 Clipper Round the World race. She’ll be circling the globe with an international crew, facing everything from peaceful seas to the massive waves of the North Pacific (which she’s both excited and, truthfully, a little nervous about).

With that goal in mind, Hannah decided to go all in on the live aboard lifestyle with Jared to gather more ocean time and experience a different pace of boat life before the big race. They spent their second date rock climbing at sunset and ever since have been chasing the next big adventure.

Through Our Salty Ventures, Hannah hopes to inspire others to get curious and chase their own version of an epic life. Sure, the journey isn’t always smooth sailing (literally and figuratively), but in the end, it’s always worth it!

about Jared

Jared hails from Fountain Hills, Arizona—small-town vibes but big dreams. Growing up surrounded by the desert gave him a deep respect for the outdoors, but after so much time in the heat and dust, he started craving something a little… wetter. Inspired by his dad’s sailing stories from the Sea of Cortez—and, of course, meeting a girl who thought it was a great idea—Jared decided to swap desert landscapes for ocean horizons.

Sailing is still pretty new to Jared, but he’s already hooked on the adventure. He’s not quite sure what he loves most about it yet, but hitting 7 knots for the first time was a thrill. He’s got his sights set on crossing the Pacific and spending time in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, with Australia or New Zealand as ultimate goals.

Professionally, Jared’s got a background that’s pretty handy at sea. After spending years as a rock climbing guide and working in the rope manufacturing industry, he knows his way around rigging and is no stranger to heights. Climbing the mast to check or repair lines? No problem—he’s more than comfortable up there.

On this whole sailing journey, Jared’s partner in adventure is his wife, Hannah. They’ve tackled all kinds of challenges together, from rock climbing to free diving to surfing. Sailing is just the latest in a long line of shared experiences that strengthen their bond. They balance each other out, approaching tasks 50/50 and playing to their strengths.

Jared’s philosophy on life and adventure? “We do it because it’s fun. It’s fun because we get to do it.” He hopes their stories on Our Salty Ventures show that you don’t have to be great at everything—you just have to try. Fear? It’s the only thing that gets smaller the closer you get to it. So go ahead and do the scary things.
